Tips on how to start the event planning process

No matter what kind of event you’re planning, there are a lot of different aspects to consider. What type of event is it? What’s the theme? Who is your target audience? What kind of venue will you need? Planning an event can be daunting, but it’s also a lot of fun. Start by focusing on the basics and go from there. Here are a few tips on how to get started.

Start by creating a budget

If you’re like most people, you want to throw a special event that is both memorable and affordable. But how do you balance those two goals? Here are four factors to consider when making your budget:  what type of event it is, where it will be held, the guest list, and the timing. Let’s take a closer look at each one.

  1. What type of an event is it?
    Do you go with a large-scale affair that will accommodate all of your family and friends or do you choose a smaller, more private celebration?
  2. Where will it be held?
    What is the ideal setting for the event?  There are so many venues in the Lower Mainland that can accommodate any size gathering.  Is there in-house catering and if so, what is the food and beverage menu? Is it suitable for your guests?
  3. Create a guest list. 
    How many people will you invite? By sending out a save the date card, your guests will have plenty of time to plan for your event. Set your RSVP at least 30-45 days prior to your event date.
  4. The timing of the event.
    During what season will the event be held? Is it a romantic winter wedding or a summer backyard birthday bash?  Depending on the season, there may be additional items that are required, dependent on the weather.
